Yvonne Serruys

Born into a family with liberal social ideas, she received a classical education while practicing music and drawing. After beginning her career in painting, she turned to sculpture in Paris, specializing in statuettes of female nudes with simple lines. Around 1913, she settled with her husband, the critic Pierre Mille, at 15 Quai de Bourbon, very close to Camille Claudel’s last studio, though she apparently never met her. A museum is dedicated to her in Menin, her hometown.
